If you run a call center, you may have installed up-to-date call center software for monitoring phone calls and keeping track of employee hours. You may be improving the customer experience, but another facet of the job needs to be considered: the employees experience...on the job. Creating a comfortable work environment for your employees is of utmost importance.
You’ll want to make sure that the office furniture you purchase is ergonomic. This means that it fits the user and will prevent repetitive strain injury such as carpal tunnel syndrome, which can lead to long-term chronic disability. Uncomfortable workspaces can lead to fatigue and other health risks; employees who have to sit for long periods of time are more at risk for back and neck problems and this all can add to employee stress. Better seating, improved adjustable keyboards and foot rests will help aid in overall comfort and health which will lead to improved productivity.
Having adequate time to get up, walk around and stretch should be required throughout an employee’s workday. Some employees might be tempted to work through lunch, this should not be encouraged. What should be encouraged is creating an exercise "team". During their lunch breaks, employees would exercise and take walks together. Ensuring that your employees are physically able to remain on the job, thus combating the high turn around rates, will save you valuable time by not having to retraining new employees.
Call center employees work long hours and have demanding jobs. You certainly want to make sure that the employees you do have stay happy and comfortable.
